Highest Number Of First Class Honours To Date For SIM-UOL Graduates

“Almost no one achieves anything on their own,” said His Excellency Mr Scott Wightman CMG, British High Commissioner to Singapore, at the opening session of the SIM – University of London (UOL) Presentation Ceremony on 5 April 2018. Mr Wightman was speaking as the Guest-of-Honour at the event.

“Treat all of your colleagues with respect. Help them when they are under pressure. Take pleasure in their successes. And you will find that as a consequence, they will help you when you face challenges, and will take pleasure in your successes,” he advised the graduates.

Speaking on the importance of staying relevant and employable in a fast-changing world, Mr Wightman also reminded the graduates to be adaptable, open to lifelong learning, new ideas, technologies and ways of thinking.

This year, a record 225 graduates received First Class Honours, a significant jump from last year’s 191 First Class Honours recipients.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tan Soo Jin, Chairman, SIM Governing Council, said that in today’s increasingly diverse and complex workplaces, having the required specialist or technical knowledge and skills is no longer enough. It is vital that they also have “cognitive, emotional and social competencies”, he said.

This year’s ceremony saw a total of 2,145 graduates receive their certificates over four sessions held at SIM Headquarters. SIM Global Education is UOL’s largest affiliate centre and has partnered the UK university to offer academic programmes in Singapore for the past 32 years.
 

This year’s graduates join more than 35,000 alumni who have benefited from the rigours of an SIM-UOL education.
