Powering Up Careers In The Technology Sector
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are making their mark as the backbone of our economy and the key source of entrepreneurships.

Over 600 students attended the Career Fair
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are making their mark as the backbone of our economy and the key source of entrepreneurships. Technological breakthroughs have become more advanced and technology is driving present and future job creation and creating new career opportunities.
With the aim of guiding SIM GE students to develop a competitive edge in their future careers, SIM organised the SME & Technovation SIM GE Career & Internship Fair on 5 October 2018. The Fair which is in its second year, serves as a platform for students to not only engage with employers but to also source and secure internships as well as job placements.
The event drew over 600 students and over 50 employers to the Fair. The students were given the opportunity to network with employers and keep abreast of the latest industry trends, career pathways and careers choices within the sector. Participating companies included Amazon, ezbuy, JobTech, Panasonic, NBCUniversal, Glints, Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), Singtel, Twelfth Marketing and many more.

Sumedh Yadavalli, a student from the SIM-University of Buffalo Bachelor of Arts (Communication) programme found the Fair to be beneficial. “As a second year student, SME & TECHnovation Career Fair gave me the opportunity to meet with my potential employers and network with them. The Fair was relevant to my field of study as most companies had marketing opportunities and there were some companies which were directly from the Media/Entertainment industry such as NBCUniversal, SPH, and etcetera. This gave me a better perspective of the working world and made my goals organised and streamlined.”
Here's what some participants of the Career Fair had to say:
“The SME & TECHnovation Career Fair has given Ecquaria a good platform to reach out to undergraduates who may otherwise not know about us and that SMEs also have exciting and great career prospects and internship opportunities.”
Jennifer See, Manager, HR & Admin, Ecquaria Technologies Pte Ltd
“Our organisation is really pleased with the turn ups and we were able to engage and understand students much better. The career office interns were really nice in accommodating to our requests. The students were really keen and interested in the vacancies we are offering. We would love to join SIM GE future and upcoming career fairs and help more SIM students. Thank you so much for the invitation and hospitality as well.”
Cheryl Tan, Marketing Executive, GTI Asia Pte Ltd (GradSingapore)
“The job fair was really insightful for me as I was able to get a better understanding of the career opportunities offered by companies in the IT industry. Career Connect did a great job. To be able to bring in this many companies is not an easy task. The Fair provides students with a better holistic view of things in the working world.”
