Learning Needs: Dyslexia & Mental Health

On 29 June 2026, the Centre for Teaching and Learning organised an online webinar on Dyslexia and Mental Health Support in SIM.

This session was done in partnership with the Wellness and Counselling, Student Life. Attendees heard sharing on how dyslexia affects students in higher education in terms of literacy and numeracy as well as psychologically. The session also offered thoughts on simple strategies to manage different learners in their classrooms as educators.

In the second half of the session saw Ms Kommathe, one of our counsellors from SIM, speaking on mental health support on campus. Additionally, attendees also learned about emergency protocols on campus – what to do when a meeting a student in distress.

To conclude, the session was certainly fruitful as there were also many exchanges with participants who shared their own classroom experiences. The webinar is certainly another step forward to make SIM classrooms a more inclusive and safer space for teaching and learning.
