SIM-UOS Grads Urged To Innovate, Be Adaptable And Stay True To Their Calling

Think out-of-the-box to create new ways of delivering healthcare that is patient-centric. This was the message shared by Associate Professor (A/P) Edward Poon who was guest-of-honour at the SIM-University of Sydney (UOS) graduation held on Friday, 31 August. A/P Edward Poon is Director, Department of Nursing at St Luke's Eldercare Ltd and an alumnus of the SIM-UOS nursing degree programme that has been running for the past 24 years.

A/P Poon, who has more than 22 years of experience in the long-term care sector, urged graduates to use the three ‘I's to building patient-centric care: innovative use of technology; empower the elderly to take a personal interest in their own well-being; and integrate the community to provide a multi-pronged various support to the elderly.

Mr George Thia, Member, SIM Governing Council, called upon graduates to embrace lifelong learning given the rapid advances in healthcare technology. His parting encouragement to them was to stay true to their calling because nursing is “an important job of loving and caring that can touch people's hearts deeply”.
