SIM's Chairman Shares Her ABC Advice With SIM-RMIT Graduates

At the opening session of this year's SIM-RMIT University Conferment and Award Ceremony on the morning of August 20, graduates and guests were greeted by the sounds of a didgeridoo, a traditional aboriginal wind instrument played by Australian aboriginal performer and storyteller Mr Ron Murray who led the academic procession.


The academic procession led by Mr Ron Murray who brought a touch of Down Under to the joyous occasion.

Addressing the graduates as the Guest-of-Honour, Ms Euleen Goh, the recently appointed Chairman of the SIM Governing Council, shared three principles which have helped her in her life journey. Acronymed ABC, they were Adversity quotient, Belief in the possible, and Compass.

She elaborated that to have the global edge, one must be able to triumph over adversities especially in a VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) world; believe in the infinite possibilities before them and seize the opportunities; and above all, build a moral compass based on values, character and faith.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Mr Martin Bean CBE, Vice-Chancellor and President, RMIT University welcomed the graduates into RMIT's global network of more than 400,000 alumni in 130 countries. In Singapore, the partnership between SIM and RMIT University have produced close to 40,000 alumni over 31 years.

Over four days, about 2,800 SIM-RMIT students will graduate from nine degree programmes.
