Classes were engaging and more hands-on with more class participation, group projects and learning excursions. We learned to be expressive and speak confidently in front of the class with the encouragement of our professors.” Thinking Out-Of-The-Box “My professors at UB always believed that there was no such thing as a wrong or stupid question and they would often open the floor for animated discussions. This in turn, would allow us to be more expressive without having the feeling of ‘Oh no, am I going to be judged for what I say?’. This I believe is really important in tertiary learning.” “My most memorable experience was presenting a Titanic-themed presentation with Karl Marx's theories for Classical Sociology. We did a combination of skit and scenarios to better explain the different classes. We involved the whole class in the scenarios to give them a first-hand experience of how the theory worked. From the preparation to the actual presentation, we felt that the experience gained was worth the effort.” Applying Knowledge On The Job “I am currently working as a Marketing Executive for Fei Siong Group. What truly inspired me to take on this job was my love for food! I wanted a job that would allow me to share my passion with the world and be able to apply the skills and knowledge that I’ve accumulated over the past few years.” “Analytical thinking is something that most take for granted. In an era where technology is thriving, you have to be able to use everything and think out-of-the-box to capture the attention of people. Creativity has to work hand-in-hand with data analysis and I’m thankful to be able to apply analytical thinking at my job. This has been a valuable skill that I have been equipped with at SIM GE.” Pursuing Other Interests “I took sign language classes at SADeaf on Saturdays to learn more about the language, the deaf culture and to make new friends. I’ve been interested in this language and culture since my polytechnic days as I was part of the Hearing Impaired Club, or Hi! Club for short. I’ve currently stopped to focus on my career, but I do intend to take it up again in the future”. “I’m currently involved in Lembaga Biasiswa Kenangan Maulud (LBKM ), as a Youth Ambassador. The organisation disburses bursaries to assist students financially and I have been fortunate enough to be a beneficiary of their bursaries during my studies. As a Youth Ambassador, I currently work with LBKM to promote SIM GE programmes to prospective students.” Excelling At What She Does “I hope to continue exploring my communication skills at a more in-depth level in the Food & Beverage or social sector. With the communications skills and understanding of human and societal behaviour, I do believe that I will be able to go far in pursuing this interest.” Posted online, 24 April 2017
