Discover SIM GE You Poh Seng scholar Gabriel Loh has diverse experience in banking, finance, sales FIRST-CLASS Honours in his University of London studies, followed by a Masters degree at the London Business School, and now working in real estate investing and asset management at Goldman Sachs in London, Gabriel Low Zhi Ren has indeed come a long way since his days at Temasek Polytechnic doing a Diploma in Business. Gabriel, 26, who won the prestigious SIM You Poh Seng scholarship in 2014 to do his Masters, already possessed a broad breadth of experience working in banking, finance and sales. Before enrolling in the SIM-UOL BSc (Hons) in Accounting and Finance in May 2011, he worked as a telemarketer handling mortgage sales in mid-2008. He brokered deals totalling more than $1 million in his three months on the job. He also worked as an intern in his SIM days, with Religare Capital Markets. His duties rotated between Corporate Finance, Equity Capital Markets and Equity Research. Gabriel was initially studying full time, but because of his internship, he switched to part-time study. Among the students in the part-time programme, he graduated top of the Accounting cohort, and received the Gold Award. Gabriel completed his Master in Management at London Business School in September 2015. Although now working in London, he plans to return to Singapore for more permanent work in the future. His long-term goal, he says, is to start his own business. Outside of work and academic subjects, Gabriel’s passions are football (favourite club is AC Milan), Old School Rap and Muay Thai boxing. One of the most insightful books that he has read was Soros on Soros by George Soros (1995), a summary of the ideas and thinking of the investment wizard. Posted online, 25 January 2016
