The learning outcomes of our BCom graduates are composed of two equally important elements. 

Students will learn a range of technical skills, such as:

Curriculum

Structure

The blended learning will be supported by academics and professional support staff and will combine a mix of guided study, independent study, online discussions, group, and individual activities.  

Lecturers: UofA faculty and SIM local lecturers
Average teacher-student ratio: 1:30
Exemptions: Nil

Assessment & Attendance

All modules are assessed using a variety of methods including written assignments, exams, written reports, presentations, research proposals, case studies and online discussions. Formative assessments (plans or drafts) may be submitted at specified times during each module for feedback.  

Attendance requirement:
•    Local students – 75%
•    International students – 90%

Requirements to Graduate

SIM Diploma in Accounting/ Banking and Finance/ International Business/ Management Studies holders are eligible for up to 42 course equivalency credits, or 14- courses exemption. They will need to complete 26 courses (78 credits) in SIM. Courses to be completed in SIM depend on the transfer credits that are awarded in accordance with the Diploma that the students hold.

20 core and 11 electives, making a total of 31 courses will be offered in SIM. This will allow students to take all the required courses to graduate with the BCom degree in SIM.

Admission Criteria

Accepted Entry Qualifications

  • SIM Diploma in Accounting/ Banking and Finance/ International Business/ Management Studies; or
  • All other qualifications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis

Applicants must obtain an average Grade B and may be required for interview before admission.
 

English Language Requirements

•    Possession of a degree or its academic equivalent from an institution recognized by the University of Alberta and where the language of instruction is English 

•    Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT, in-person or special at-home edition) - Total score of 90 with a score of at least 21 on each of the individual skill areas (internet based) or equivalent.

•    Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
    6.5, with at least 6.0 on each test band.

•    Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) -61 with a minimum band score of 60.

•    Equivalent.

Fees & Financial Aid

Programme fees are charged based on the number of credits taken during the semester.

Semester programme fees are payable prior to commencement of semester. Each semester typically has 6 to 7 modules (18 to 21 credits).

Student Development Fee

Applicable to all students embarking on a full-time Diploma or Undergraduate programme at SIM. This fee goes towards activities that will help in students’ personal growth and equip them with functional skills that enhance their employability.

Payable with the programme fees’ first instalment.

International Student Induction Fee

A one-time fee payable by new full-time international students. This fee covers pre-arrival and arrival support, including activities to enhance the international student learning experience.

Payable for each application form that is submitted. Fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. The fee will be refunded fully only if the intake does not commence. Unpaid applications will not be processed.
