Overall introduction to the Job of the Manager (JOMAN)

Have you recently taken on added responsibilities, been preparing for a career transition, promoted or have years of work experience but not formally guided in management and leadership skills? 

JOMAN is a uniquely designed programme to complement technical and specialist know-how by providing a practical orientation to holistic general management thinking and tools, otherwise available through formal academic programmes. 

The JOMAN programme focuses on three key dimensions: 

  • Personal Mastery 
  • People Management 
  • Organisation Alignment

Developed in a series of two progressive levels, participants have the flexibility to join a suitable JOMAN programme to benefit from its broad range of comprehensive concepts. 

JOMAN: Essential Managerial Techniques

This component programme (of the JOMAN programme package) gives you the essential skills and knowledge to shift from being an individual contributor to an effective manager who can achieve team success and drive bottom line performance.

Programme leader

Michael P A Tan has more than 20 years of working experience in administration and human resource, training & development and training consultancy. Currently, he is Event Organiser for the Singapore Learning Circles Meetup. 

He specialises in personal enrichment programmes and organisational development topics. Michael’s client list includes the civil service departments and statutory boards, companies in the service and hospitality sectors, and manufacturing industries from Singapore and other ASEAN countries and Mongolia.

He is certified in the Workplace Big Five profile, Emergenetics, MBTI®, DiSC, Relationship Awareness™ Theory Instruments and a number of other personality profiling tools. He has the Advanced Certificate in Training & Assessment (ACTA) issued by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency, (WDA). Michael holds a Master of Arts in Tertiary, Adult & Continuing Education from the University of Hull, UK.

Michael has also contributed an article Developing Self Effectiveness For Improved Performance.

Sanjay Mehta is a corporate learning entrepreneur, facilitator, coach with 20 years of experience in the IT industry, leading businesses and teams locally, in Asia and also in USA. He worked for Microsoft from 2000 to 2009 and was involved in various technical, business and leadership roles. Areas of expertise include Business Management and Operations, Readiness Management, Training Development and Delivery, Program and Project Management, Change Management, Customer and Call Centre Support, Account Management, Consulting, Technical Sales and Systems Management. He has wide facilitation and coaching experience in the areas of Leadership, Management, Innovation, Change, Project Management, Process and Technology. He is fascinated by the world of Neuroscience and Positive Psychology in optimising brain performance and enhancing learning to increase human capability and performance, and looks to apply them in his learning interventions. He is an ACTA Certified Trainer (WDA) and is currently a SkillsFuture Mentor. He is also certified in Workplace Big Five 4.0, MBTI and Emergenetics psychometric assessment tools. Sanjay is a certified coach with a Certificate in Coaching Skills and obtained a distinction in the Certificate in Neuroleadership. He was awarded the Top 10 Trainers 2016 award at the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM).

Gerald Ng is a consultant, facilitator and coach, focusing on energising organisations, synergizing teams and empowering people. He has over 28 years of work experience in the field of learning and development, and possesses diversified experience in various aspects around human resource development (HRD). He is highly regarded for his creative and practical approach. Being skilled in the adoption of the different learning methodology, has also enabled his training to achieve its intended outcomes and create an impact resulting in optimal learning and on-going change.

Gerald focuses on learning/OD initiatives and his area of specialisation includes leadership development, management effectiveness, performance management, change management, teambuilding and personal effectiveness skills etc.

He holds a Master of Science in Human Resource Development from South Bank University, a Bachelor of Business in Human Resource Management from University of Southern Queensland and SIM Diploma in Training and Development. He is certified in MBTI®, FIRO-B,Workplace Big 5, Emergenetics, DISC and accredited in Action Reflective Learning (ARL), Covey Leadership (Seven Habits of Highly Effective People),Crucial Conversations and Extraordinary Leadership. He is also an Executive Coach, recognized by Coaching University. He is bilingual in English and Mandarin and speaks fluent Cantonese.

Edwin Sim has over 20 years of experience in law enforcement, information and communication technology as well as human and organisational development areas. Edwin helmed leadership positions in leading training and consultancy firms in Singapore before starting his own practice. Edwin’s passion lies in designing appropriate customised learning interventions that help organisations change and transformation. More than 200 organisations have benefited from his insight in delivering practical, “do-able” simple and yet impactful interventions, especially in the areas of leadership, communication, teamwork, organisational change, sales and service improvement. Edwin is a certified trainer and assessor under the Workforce Skills Qualification as well as a Six Sigma Green Belt practitioner. He is a certified Action Learning Coach with the World Institute of Action Learning and is also certified to deliver several global leadership programs from around the world.
