Course Overview

As organisations navigate a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous environment, they face new challenges that require new ways of responding. Externally, customer expectations continue to evolve rapidly, in parts driven by technology and globalization. Society is also demanding that organisations operate in responsible and sustainable manners. Internally, employee engagement needs new approaches as the need to build a diverse and inclusive culture becomes imperative. Responding in new ways to ensure the organisations stay in business requires employees to develop and apply creative thinking.

Creative thinking can be applied by employees in various functions and levels to add value to the organisation. It enables employees to spot new opportunities in the marketplace. It drives the process of innovation, allowing employees to create new solutions that meet the needs of stakeholders. It provides a way for collaboration between different groups of employees in problem solving. It encourages employees to take risks and embrace failures as part of the learning process. When creative thinking is practiced widely, it enables the organisation to come up with solutions that differentiate itself from the competition.

Course benefits

The course, Creative Thinking, is a critical core skill endorsed by SkillsFuture Singapore. It provides learners with a process to develop and apply creative thinking. It helps learners to understand how data may be collected and analysed to yield insights into user needs. It gives learners the techniques to engage in divergent and convergent thinking, both of which are essential in innovation. It provides learners with the concept to design and conduct experimentation and iteration. When learners apply these competencies, they will be able to collaborate with others to apply creative thinking to a problem and propose innovative solutions.
