Celebrating Innovation and Impact

An interdisciplinary team of six SIM students and graduates, known as EduNets, has secured second place at the prestigious Huawei Tech4City 2026 Finals. Held at Meeting Point @ LaunchPad, one-north, the innovation competition challenges young minds to leverage technology to solve pressing real-world issues.
Emerging as one of the six finalist teams from 240 entries, EduNets impressed judges and industry leaders with its AI-powered platform tailored for secondary school students preparing for their O-levels. The platform utilises quizzes, AI-assisted note analysis, and targeted revision materials to identify and bridge individual learning gaps.

A Showcase of Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Bringing together team members from diverse nationalities and academic backgrounds, EduNets demonstrated how varied perspectives drive creative problem-solving.

Beatrice Faustine Irawan, Team Leader of EduNets and an RMIT Bachelor of Accounting graduate, reflected on the journey:

"Our team of six came from different nationalities, academic backgrounds, and walks of life. We didn't always think alike, and that was what made the experience so interesting. We questioned each other's ideas, approached problems from different angles, and learnt that our differences weren't something to overcome, but something that made us stronger."

She added:
"Our achievement wasn't just a proud moment for the six of us, but also an opportunity to show what students from SIM are capable of."

Driving Meaningful Change

The finals welcomed distinguished guests, including Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for Social and Family Development, alongside industry advisers from StartupX, IBM, Microsoft Singapore, and Temasek Polytechnic.

Highlighting the true essence of technological advancement, Mr Masagos Zulkifli noted:

"The true measure of innovation is not how sophisticated one's technology is, but how much difference it can make to people's lives."

This sentiment closely mirrors EduNets' mission, as its platform was successfully deployed on Huawei Cloud after receiving valuable user feedback from about 125 student testers. Beyond the $11,000 cash prize, the team benefited greatly from expert mentorship, including guidance from Student Development executive Guo MingLin and gaining exposure to entrepreneurship and product development.

Looking Forward

Team EduNets' success underscores the value of experiential learning, industry mentorship, and interdisciplinary teamwork at SIM GE. As the team looks toward future developments and broader implementation of their platform, their journey continues to inspire current students to apply classroom knowledge to create meaningful, tech-driven social impact.
