SIM Bowlers Secure Podium Finishes at International University Championship

Regional Sporting Excellence 

The 2nd AUSC International University Bowling Open Championship 2026, organised by the ASEAN University Sports Council (AUSC), took place from 29 June to 5 July 2026 at the Fexie Superbowl on Langkawi Island, Kedah, Malaysia. Bringing together student-athletes, coaches, and university officials from across the ASEAN region, the prestigious event was designed to foster friendship, cultural exchange, and high-level sportsmanship. 

For SIM, participation in the championship reflects a core commitment to providing meaningful opportunities beyond the classroom. The tournament allowed student bowlers to benchmark themselves against strong international competitors, gain valuable experience under pressure, and strengthen regional university partnerships. 

Tournament Highlights and Podium Success 

The week-long event featured a comprehensive itinerary, opening with a ceremony welcoming the participating universities. Student-athletes competed across multiple intense categories, including Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and All Events. Alongside the fierce lane competition, the tournament offered structured opportunities for interaction, networking, and cultural exchange among the regional teams. 



The definitive highlight for the SIM contingent came during the Closing Ceremony, where the team's dedication and discipline were rewarded with two major podium finishes. Competing against some of the region's strongest university bowlers, SIM successfully secured: 

3rd Place – All Events Category 

3rd Place – Mixed Doubles Category 

These achievements reinforce SIM's reputation for sporting excellence on the international stage and have brought immense pride to the entire institution. 

Developing Global Perspectives 

Beyond the medals, the championship provided the student-athletes with significant personal and professional growth. Participants gained exposure to international competitive standards, refined their technical skills, and developed attributes like mental resilience, teamwork, and leadership—qualities highly valued by global employers. 

Reflecting on the unique competitive environment, Teo Jun Hao Xavier, Vice President of SIM Bowling, said: "It was a great experience to bowl with bowlers across the causeway! The competition experience was unique with different organisers, lanes were tough but it was a fulfilling journey with the team." 

The sentiment of growth and collaboration was echoed by Reyes George III Chan, Secretary of SIM Bowling, who added: "Learnt a lot competing against bowlers from various universities, whilst forging meaningful friendships and connections, along with the importance of adapting quickly to a new and foreign lane environment."
