Cyber security is not merely about the Internet. As cyber security becomes a growing constant in the ever evolving digital landscape, our dependence on multiple, complex, interacting digital systems increases day by day.

This programme is designed for graduates and professionals looking to understand or apply cyber security in a consultancy, strategic, business or management context. Over the duration of this course, you will be trained to have both the technical insight into the security of digital systems and devices, and also the management of people who interact with them. You will be prepared to manage cyber security within an enterprise, from influencing the risk appetite of the board to managing firewall reconfiguration during a cyber attack.

Suitable for those working or intending to work in the area of IT security. Qualifications in engineering, IT, scientific disciplines and as well as other background with suitable IT grounding can be considered for admission.

Curriculum

Structure

  • Comprise two taught modules of 30 credits of blended learning with lectures, exercises and activities.
  • Delivered on a modular basis over 12 months with every module having pre-learning activities and face-to-face classes. Before face-to-face delivery, participants will receive an online introduction of the module and the instructions for pre-learning activities.
  • All learning resources will be accessible by participants online.
    • Pre-learning activities: 10 hours
    • Face-to-face contact: 40 hours
  • Fully taught by faculty from WMG, University of Warwick, ensuring the same academic input for the Singapore programme.

  • Average Teacher-Participant Ratio – 1:35
  • Exemptions: Nil
  • Minimum Class Size: 20 participants to commence. If the class fails to commence due to low take-up rate, participants will be informed within one month before programme commencement with the refund of application fee.
  • Face-to-face Delivery: Generally held in classes on SIM campus unless otherwise stated. This is usually 3 hours on weekdays and 9 hours on weekends.

Mon – Fri: 6:30pm – 10pm (Wed: no class)
Sat: 9am – 6pm (2 weekends)
Sun: 9am – 6pm (1 weekend)

Assessment & Attendance

  • 100% attendance rate
  • Participants will be assessed by coursework – the application of concepts and tools to solve company problems. Coursework can take various forms such as written assignment, project, presentation etc. The assessments are subject to change by the University and some coursework may be group-based.
  • Participants will progress through each module upon completion of its coursework.

Requirements to Graduate

To attain the Postgraduate Award in Cyber Security Management, participants must successfully complete the coursework of two modules and meet the programme’s conferral requirements.

The certificate is the same as that awarded in the UK.

Credits gained from the post-module assignments can build towards a full Master’s degree in Cyber Security Management with WMG, University of Warwick at SIM.

Note: Students are required to own a laptop equipped with at least Microsoft Windows 10 or Apple MacOS Catalina (10.15) and 8GB RAM (recommended).

Admission Criteria

Accepted Entry Qualifications

  • A qualification equivalent to a UK Bachelor’s; or
  • Mature candidates (at least 30 years old) with a Singapore Local Polytechnic Diploma and at least eight years of relevant work experience.
  • Additionally, candidates must have a background in IT from prior studies or relevant work experience.

Candidates with other qualifications can be assessed on individual merit.

Applicants who have a work permit or employment pass can be considered for admission to part-time study.

English Language Requirements

A Secure English Language Test (SELT) is required as proof of English Language Proficiency. This test must have been conducted within 2 years of the formal start date for the programme.

  • IELTS 6.5 overall (with at least 6.0 in each band); or
  • TOEFL 92 (iBT) overall with scores in listening=21, speaking=23, reading=22 and writing=21; or
  • Pearson Test in English (Academic) with a minimum score of 62 (with at least 59 in each of the four component;

Applicants whose entry qualification was attained in Singapore or other English Speaking Country (as defined by UKVI) in the last two years with at least two years of study in an English medium institution are exempted from English Proficiency Requirement.

Applicants who have worked in an international company for at least the last two years where English is the day to day language of business may be exempted from the English Proficiency Requirement based on written company evidence of their proficiency in the use of English for Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing on a daily basis.

Other Requirements

  • Two satisfactory academic/industrial referees, and
  • A letter of academic interest and objective in undertaking postgraduate study

An interview by the Programme Director and/or Programme Faculty may be required as part of the admission process.

Fees & Financial Aid

All fees are inclusive of prevailing GST for the intakes in 2022 and are payable before term/module commencement (exclude textbooks).

Payment to SIM can be made through SIMConnect using Credit Card (Visa or Master), PayNow, eNETS, OCBC Interest-free Instalment Plan (min. S$500) and cheques.

Application Fee

Payable for each application form that is submitted. Fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. The fee will be refunded fully only if the intake does not commence. Unpaid applications will not be processed.
