This course introduces Artificial Intelligence (AI) and statistical analytics to students with no prior coding experience and limited mathematical background, equipping them with the skills to solve complex real-world problems across sectors such as health, finance, security, education, and sustainability. Delivered by the School of Computer Science and Informatics at Cardiff University, the programme draws on the University’s strong research expertise in AI, data mining, and advanced algorithms. Curriculum

Structure

  • This programme will be delivered via a blended mode with face-to-face intensive teaching modules and online components. All modules will be delivered by faculty from The Schools of Mathematics and Computer Science & Informatics through the Data Science Academy, Cardiff University. The online learning will be supported by academics and industry professionals; and will combine a mix of guided study, independent study, online discussions, group, and individual activities.

  • Average teacher-student ratio: 1:50
  • Weekly schedule: Between Monday and Friday at three or six hours per session. Saturday classes may occasionally be scheduled if required.
  • Class timing: 8.30am / 12.00pm / 3.30pm, held on SIM campus unless otherwise stated
  • Minimum class size to commence: 15 students
    If the class fails to commence due to low take-up rate, applicants will be informed within one month before programme commencement with the refund of application fee.

Requirements to Graduate

  • To attain the Master of Science in AI + Statistical Analytics, students must complete all the requirements of the programme in strict compliance with the schedules and timelines defined for the cohort in which the student is enrolled or deferred. 
  • The awarded degree and degree certificate, is the same as that awarded in the UK, i.e. Master of Science in AI + Statistical Analytics.  
  • The degree title on the transcript will be Master of Science in AI + Statistical Analytics.

Admission Criteria

Accepted Entry Qualifications

  •  A 2:2* honours degree in any subject, or an equivalent international degree.
  • An A-level or equivalent in Mathematics and/or have received quantitative skills training as part of their undergraduate programme or professional experience.
  • For applicants who do not have a degree, their application may be considered on the basis of professional experience.
* 2:2 may also be called a Lower Second-Class Honours degree. 

Prior experience of coding is not necessary on this course. 

All other qualifications shall be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be subject to interview. 

English Language Requirements

  • Minimum C6 pass in English as First Language at GCE 'O' Level; or
  • IELTS score of 6.5 overall with minimum of 5.5 in each subskill; or
  • TOEFL score of 90 overall with a minimum of 17 for writing, 17 for listening, 18 for reading, and 20 for speaking; or
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic): At least 69 overall with a minimum of 59 in all communicative skills; or
  • Successful completion of Part 2 of SIM Pre-Sessional English course (PSEC); or
  • Equivalent

Pre-sessional English Course (If Required)

Developed and awarded by SIM, Singapore.

Applicants who have not reached the required IELTS English Language proficiency level or equivalent shall have to complete and pass a Pre-Sessional English Course before progressing to any of the BSc programmes.

This full-time course aims to improve all four Academic English Language skills in Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing to the required proficiency level for entry to the respective BSc programmes. 

A certificate of completion will be awarded upon successful passing of Part Two of the Pre-sessional English Course.

There will not be any refund or recourse should students fail to complete the course within the course duration.



* The PSEC is not open for direct application. The selection into the course is based upon recommendations by the Admission Committee (AC) for those who have applied to the respective BSc Programmes.

Structure

  • Mode of delivery: Lessons will be delivered via blended learning with a combination of face-to-face lectures and e-learning components.

  • Assessments: Continuous assessments include in-class tests, individual / group assignments, online quizzes etc. There are no re-assessments.

    If the class fails to commence due to low take-up rate, students will be informed at least 1 week before programme commencement with the refund of application fee.
  • Attendance requirement:
    • Local students – at least 75% rate
    • International students – at least 90% rate
  • Maximum candidature: 2 months. There will be no refund or recourse should students fail to complete the programme within the candidature period.

International Student Induction Fee

A one-time fee payable by new full-time international students. This fee covers pre-arrival and arrival support, including activities to enhance the international student learning experience.
