Course Overview

Data Visualization is the graphical representation of information and data by translating information to a visual context to make it for the easier for the human brain to understand and pull insights from. 


This course is designed for participants who may be executives, supervisors and managers who are still working with data stored in Microsoft Excel but need more powerful tools such as Power BI that allow them to mine large datasets for information and presenting the information visually by creating a dashboard. 


Course benefits

1. Gather insights through use of suitable data and appropriate visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI and perform descriptive analytics using charts and communicate the limitations of data and interpretations of findings presented due to the appropriateness of chart types

2. Build a data dashboard with appropriate interactive graphics, visual (line, bar, pie, etc charts) and technical features (filter and slicer) for presenting of business information

3. Develop a dashboard scorecard to measure key company metrics or KPI and deduce business trends (line chart) and correlations (scatter chart) using appropriate visual display to convey interesting business insights.

a. Overview of data analytics and project life cycle

b. Understanding the importance of data visualizations in the real-world settings

c. Understanding different type of tools that enable data visualizations

d. Identify the different types of visualization and its uses.

e. Evaluating the data types and structures and its limitation to interpreting findings on business situation

2. Creating Dashboard using Microsoft Power BI

a. Overview of Power BI as a data visualization tool

b. Using excel as a data source for Power BI

c. Understand the different types of dashboards

d. Understand elements needed for dashboarding

e. Implementing drill-down and filter features to incorporate interactions and informative displays

3. Using score-card to measure business KPI

a. Select and explore appropriate data sources

b. Build appropriate charts and information display to convey findings for a business problem

c. Organise dashboard for business user to be able to interpret trends and correlations easily

d. Create a compelling storyline with visualizations on a dashboard using data storytelling framework.
