The UOL Economics and Finance course is well-designed and covers major areas in economics and finance. Through the programme, I gained a better perspective on what I really wanted to do and where my interests lie.
Discover SIM GE The SIM-University of London (UOL) in Economics and Finance (part-time) degree programme enabled SIM GE alumnus Dong Guodong (pictured above) to strike a better balance between work and his studies. With the greater flexibility he was afforded through the programme, Guodong excelled and gained admission into the MSc Quantitative Finance programme at Singapore Management University’s Lee Kong Chian School of Business. He shares on his success journey here... The Right Fit “I came to Singapore from China in 2008 to pursue my diploma studies. After I graduated, I took up a job and worked as a healthcare staff in a hospital. However, I realised that it wasn't a career that I had always dreamed of. I decided to go for something that I really wanted to do and chose to pursue the SIM-UOL Economics and Finance programme because I knew about the reputation of the university and I have always been interested in this field of work. Additionally, most of the classes scheduled were in the evenings and on weekends so the programme was very suitable for me as I work during the daytime and on weekdays." Unrelenting Pursuit Of Excellence “As a non-native English speaker, language was a major challenge for me, especially when it came to terminologies. I still remember having to struggle with Mathematics questions. Although I knew the answer to the questions, I had difficulty in understanding terminologies that were used. However, I did not hold back when it came to getting help from my lecturers and friends. I also tried to improve myself by referring to the dictionary and websites whenever I needed to find out the meaning of a word. I was able to eventually adapt well to the lessons that were taught in English with time.” That All Important Step “The UOL Economics and Finance course is well-designed and covers major areas in economics and finance. Through the programme, I gained a better perspective on what I really wanted to do and where my interests lie. Without the opportunity to study in SIM GE, I wouldn’t be able to go on to a masters progamme in Quantitative Finance and take that important step in pursuing a career that I'm passionate about.” “SIM GE is an institution with advanced teaching devices that enable students to understand classes clearly. More importantly, the lecturers are also able to deliver valuable knowledge to students. I was very fortunate to have lecturers such as Dr Li Zhong Qiang and Dr Royal Naidu Radhakrishnan. They are very knowledgeable and creative in teaching. They have always been patient when it came to listening and explaining and I truly appreciate their help during my time there.” Ready To Thrive “As Singapore’s Finance industry is one of the most well-known and advanced in Asia and even the rest of the world, I hope to play a part in this bustling sector and join an investment bank or firm here one day.” Posted online, 20 June 2017
