SIM Campus Development

SIM moved into its Clementi HQ campus in 2001 with a student enrolment of over 14,000. By 2014, its student population has grown to more than 36,000. To support this fast growing student population, SIM embarked on a Campus Development Master Plan in 2009 to double its campus size to 110,000 square metres over five years.

Completed over two phases and costing $300 million, the expanded HQ campus now houses more and better-equipped teaching and learning facilities, an iconic sports and recreation complex with a performing arts theatre, a financial training centre, an extended library, a student hub and wellness centre.

Phase 1, a 30,000 square metres Annex Building (Block B) adjacent to the original HQ Building, was completed in December 2010. It was officially opened by President Tony Tan Keng Yam on 16 March 2012.

Phase 2, consisting of an administrative building (Block C) and a multi-purpose complex (Block D), was completed in September 2014. It was officially opened by Mr Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Trade and Industry, on 28 November 2014.

The completion of its Campus Development project consolidates SIM’s position as the largest private education institution, in terms of campus size and student population. More importantly, the facilities enable SIM to provide a richer campus life that supports its holistic education philosophy.

The expanded campus caters to the growing needs of both SIM University (UniSIM) and SIM Global Education (SIM GE) – two entities under the SIM Group. The campus in supporting both entities is fully optimised to cater to full-time as well as part-time students.

Established in 2005 as Singapore’s first and only private university dedicated to adult learning, UniSIM plays a unique role in catering to the tertiary education and lifelong learning needs of working adults. Since August 2014, it has also started offering full-time publicly-funded undergraduate degree programmes. In 2013, it was also appointed to host Singapore’s third law school.

SIM GE offers degree programmes through its overseas partner universities such as the University of London and RMIT University. Most of its students are studying full-time, but SIM GE also offers part-time programmes that cater to working adults.

In recognition of the leadership and dedication of two of SIM’s pioneers – Founding Chairman Dr Richard Eu (serving 1964 – 1996) and ex-Executive Director Professor You Poh Seng (serving 1979 – 1996), two of the buildings are named after them. The vision and leadership of these two pioneers were instrumental in setting a firm foundation for SIM in its first three decades.
