SIM GE faculty feted at Faculty Appreciation Dinner 2018

21 Mar 2018

“I have to earn my dinner with a speech.  I am not sure if (it) will be witty, thought-provoking and inspiring like the lectures you give, but I will do my best.” On this self-deprecating note, SIM Holdings CEO Dr Lee Kwok Cheong set the tone for a Faculty Appreciation Dinner filled with humour and fun. Held at Sheraton Towers Singapore Hotel on 17 March 2018, the annual event was graced by some 250 SIM Global Education lecturers and staff, including Mr Tan Soo Jin, Chairman, SIM Holdings Pte Ltd Board of Directors.

Dr Lee touched on the night’s theme ‘Innovate to Transform’, pointing out that teaching in today’s world goes beyond knowledge transmission. The innovating mindset begins with educators themselves; they have to rewire their own thinking, engage in continuous lifelong learning and harness the transformative possibilities in technology. The mandate, he said, is to ultimately produce students who can make a positive difference to their community and the world.

At the dinner, over 70 faculty members were recognised for their dedication to furthering that mandate. A total of four Teaching Excellence Awards – the highest accolade - and 11 Teaching Merit Awards were presented; in addition, 61 lecturers were honoured for their long service contributions of between five to 30 years.
