SIM GE hosts Model UN Preparatory Conference giving students exposure to international diplomacy and negotiation

18 Jan 2018

SIM Global Learning (SIM GE) was host to over 780 delegates at the seventh edition of the United Nations Association of Singapore Model United Nations (UNASMUN) Preparatory Conference. Held over four days from 19 to 22 December 2017, it was the fifth time that SIM GE had helmed the conference, which aims to be the leading resource platform for Model United Nations’ (Model UN) programmes in Singapore.

Model UN programmes are designed to introduce students to the world of international diplomacy and negotiation. Students assume the roles of United Nations (UN) delegates through authentic simulations of international multilateral bodies such as the United Nations General Assembly and United Nations Security Council.

The Preparatory Conference, themed ‘Towards A More Sustainable World’, saw delegates aged between 14 to 18 hold discussions on international issues and debate problems and solutions within their respective committees. They also had the opportunity to hear from and interact with invited guest speakers through various question-and-answer sessions.

The event laid the foundational groundwork for delegates as they prepared for UNASMUN and other conferences in Singapore and around the world.
