“There is no need to fear or be anxious about anything,” said Ms Jocelyn Chng, Founder and Group CEO, JR Holdings, who was speaking as the Guest-of-Honour at the opening session of the SIM-University of London (UOL) Presentation Ceremony on 3 April 2019.
With over 30 years of experience in the food manufacturing and service industry, Ms Chng shared her personal journey of grit to make Sin Hwa Dee, known for its ubiquitous Chng Kee brand of soya sauce and other food products, an international household brand. An innovator with a string of awards under her belt including the National University of Singapore (NUS) Best Entrepreneur Award (2005), she was also behind the groundbreaking idea of introducing vending machines for hot food in Singapore.
Proving naysayers wrong when her father died and she had to take over the family business as a 21-year-old female, she encouraged graduates to believe in the power of their education, have the courage to overcome doubt and criticism, think out of the box, and turn their passion into a career.

Ms Euleen Goh, Chairman of SIM Governing Council, urged the graduates to be ‘ABC’ – Adaptable, Bold and Counted: adaptable to new and different situations; bold in convictions and to rise above adversities; and be counted not just for ourselves but also for the common good.
Ms Euleen Goh, Chairman of SIM Governing Council, praising the graduates for their outstanding achievements including a record 227 First Class Honours, the highest in the world for UOL programmes.
This year, about 1,900 students graduated from the SIM-UOL programmes over four sessions on 3rd and 4th April. SIM Global Education is UOL’s largest affiliate centre and has partnered the UK university to offer academic programmes in Singapore for the past 33 years.
A day of jubilation as our graduates soak in the celebrations with family and friends.
