A special lunchtime musical treat at SIM

19 Dec 2016

Staff and students of SIM were treated to a rare Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) performance on Monday, 12 December, at the SIM Performing Arts Theatre.

The concert showcased two musicians from the SSO, pianist Beatrice Lin and principal flutist Jin Ta, as well as an SSO President's Young Performer for 2014, Samuel Phua.

Samuel, a saxophonist, is a regular performer for the annual Singapore Saxophone Symposium and has represented Singapore in various musical events in countries such as Australia and Switzerland.

Collectively, the trio performed three upbeat pieces from Russell Peterson and Fernande Decruck. The sensuous notes of the saxophone accompanied by the piano and flute made for a mesmerising one hour of musical bliss.

The performers finished with a timely and charming rendition of the Christmas classic, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, which certainly warmed the hearts of those present.

This concert was part of SIM’s partnership with the SSO which has been supporting their President's Young Performers Concert series since its inception in 2001.
